e-cigs vs cigs

The main problem I have with the study is the explanation of the resistance percentages. E-cigarettes raise resistance to over 200% while smoking lowers resistance numbers to below that of non-smokers. If smoking is known to cause lung damage, why are its resistance numbers better than the extrapolation would tend to suggest? The main problem I have with the study is the explanation of the resistance percentages.
